Before you send out a newsletter, we recommend thoroughly testing the message yourself and your colleagues. Only previewing in-app is not enough. It is advisable to test a mailing in different email programs, such as Outlook, Gmail and on mobile. This way, you can see how your message appears in each email program. In Spotler MailPro there are several ways to send a test email. Below, we explain these:
- From the message itself in the editor
- Via quick send in the Content module
- As a test email in the Content module
From the message itself in the editor
When you are working on the message in the editor, you can easily check whether personalisation is applied correctly. Go to the Personalised Preview tab. To test personalisation, select a contact from the test group at the top left of the editor for a preview. In the example below, you can see that Simone is used as personalisation.
Read this article for more information about personalized previews.
Via quick send in the Content module
This method allows you to quickly send a message to an email address to test it in the mailbox. Go to the Content module and select the email you want to test; it will now be highlighted in blue in the overview. Then click Tools and then Quick send.
Choose the email address to which you want to send the test. If the address exists in the database, personalisation for that contact will be applied.
As a test email in the Content module
The most comprehensive way to test is to send the mailing to a test group. In this case as well, select the email you want to test in the Content module so it is highlighted in blue in the overview. Click Tools and then Send mailing.
Under Kind of delivery, choose Test, and then under Recipient groups select a test group. Want to know how to create a new group you can select as a test group? Then read this article about Groups.
If you want to see how the email will appear in different clients, you can select the Default option under Screenshots. Then you can send the mailing to the selected test group.
Do you want to see the screenshots for which you selected Default in the previous step? Then after sending, click Mailing checks.
You will then see examples of the email in different clients. These are not personalized, but based on user@example.com
Finally, you can view an analysis of the mailing, the spam score, an overview of the HTML, and you can perform a Random sample test that is personalised. You can choose contacts from a specific group that meet certain filters.
