In Spotler MailPro, you use a test group to test a mailing before sending it to your full audience. A test group is a separate group with internal contacts that allows you to check personalization, content, and functionality without sending the mailing to real recipients.
What is a test group?
A test group is a separate group within Spotler MailPro that consists of internal email addresses, such as yourself and your colleagues.
A test group is used to realistically test mailings with real data, such as personalization fields and tracking, before sending them to your full mailing list. This helps prevent errors and ensures that your mailing is displayed correctly for actual recipients.
When should I use a test group?
You use a test group when you want to check a mailing before sending it definitively.
- When testing personalization, such as name or dynamic content
- When checking links and buttons, such as links to a website or the unsubscribe link
- When reviewing layout on different devices
- When validating the full sending flow
How do you use a test group to test your mailing?
With a test group, you follow a fixed step-by-step process to test your mailing in a controlled way and then send it safely.
-
Step 1: Create a test group
Go to the Data module and select Groups, create a new group, and add test contacts such as yourself and your colleagues. For a reliable test, it is recommended to add multiple contacts with different values. Consider fields used for dynamic content, such as different names and preferences, as well as different email clients such as mobile, desktop, Gmail, or Outlook.
Always use a separate group that is not used for your real audience.
-
Step 2: Send a test mailing to the test group
When your email is ready to send in the Send module, you can choose the Test option on the Send mailing page under Kind of delivery. When selecting this option, choose your test group under Recipient groups.
The mailing is only sent to this group and not to your full database.
-
Step 3: Review the mailing
- Check personalization, such as name and dynamic content
- Check links and buttons
- Check the unsubscribe process
- Check the layout on desktop and mobile
Adjust the mailing where needed and send another test mailing if necessary.
-
Step 4: Send the final mailing
Once you are satisfied with the result, send the mailing again, but this time choose Definitively instead of Kind of delivery: Test.
What is the result of testing with a test group?
After testing with a test group, you can be sure that your mailing is displayed correctly and functions as intended.
This reduces the risk of errors and ensures a reliable send to your full audience.
