Using filters, you can show or hide specific content blocks for specific target audiences within your contact database. We call this Conditional content. You can also use filters to only send your mailing to a specific target audience.
Filters use the data you collected about your subscribers in database fields.
See this article to learn more about creating filters.
You can also personalize the text in your email based on the data in database fields.
See this article to learn more about personalizing text in an email.
There are two ways to provide content based on values in your database:
Showing specific content blocks in your newsletter
When showing specific content blocks in your newsletter, you define which conditions a contact must meet to see the block. Consider, for example, interests. Suppose you know of a contact that they have a preference for women's clothing. Then only content related to women's clothing will be shown. In all other cases, other or no content will be displayed.
So your content is linked to a condition. Here's how to do this in the editor when creating a newsletter:
- Select the block in your newsletter that you want to make conditional.
- On the right-hand side, at the options for your block, click Conditional content.
- Then click the dropdown to select or create a new condition.
See this article to learn more about creating filters.
- After selecting the filter, click Ok to apply the condition to the block.
- The following icon next to your block will show you that conditional content has been applied. The icon is clickable to view and adjust the condition.
Send a newsletter based on data in your database
With this option, you send the entire newsletter to a specific group.
With filters, you select contacts for whom the newsletter is relevant, or you exclude contacts for whom the newsletter is not relevant. Suppose you wish to email contacts who have a car about an offer for car insurance. This means you wish to exclude contacts who do not have a car and therefore do not need to receive a newsletter about car insurance. Create a filter containing only contacts who do have a car.
You select the filter when sending out the mailing. If you select multiple filters, only contacts who match all filters will receive the mailing. So you use the AND-condition.
