MailPro uses more domains than only the address that recipients see in the From: field. A Local Domain is a domain or subdomain belonging to your organisation that is configured for use by MailPro. It allows technical parts of your mailings such as the unsubscribe link to use a recognisable domain belonging to your organisation.
Why use a Local Domain?
A Local Domain makes the different parts of an email mailing more consistent and recognisable. Recipients may encounter your organisation’s domain in sender details, links, pages and images associated with the email.
Using a separate subdomain also allows email traffic to be kept separate from other activities on your organisation’s main domain. This makes it easier to manage the email-related configuration independently.
Does the sender domain have to be a Local Domain?
No. The sender domain (Mail-From) can be a Local Domain, but it does not have to be. MailPro can also use an organisation’s main domain as the sender domain.
The sender domain and the Local Domain therefore have different roles and are configured separately. Even when the main domain is used as the sender domain, a Local Domain should still provide the technical basis for other parts of the mailing.
How do the settings relate to each other?
- Under Setup → Sender domain, you configure which main domain can be used as the sender domain and select the associated web domain/local domain.
- Under Setup → Sender addresses, you configure the sender names and email addresses that users can select for an email.
- The available Local Domains are part of the licence configuration and can be associated with these settings.
For instructions on configuring these settings, see Sender domain and Sender addresses.
Do you need an additional Local Domain?
If the required Local Domain is not yet available in your licence, contact your account manager or Spotler Support. They can help you add and configure the domain.
