Sender domain

Normally, you use a local domain for the sender addresses of your mails in Spotler MailPro. Instead, it is also possible to use a main domain to send mail within the license. You can easily set this yourself using the function Sender domain.

A main domain such as company.nl is the primary web domain of the organization, while a local domain such as mail.company.nl is always a subdomain.

Technically, both domains have their own DNS settings, which allows them to be managed independently. In this article, we will explain how to set up a sender domain and how it differs from a local domain. At the end, you will contact Spotler support to have the domain added to the configuration.

When do you choose a main domain instead of a local domain?

A main domain represents the entire company, while a local domain is focused on specific departments or applications.

A local domain is preferred because mail traffic is kept separate from other activities on the main domain. In addition, a local domain can be used for department-specific communication, regional or local campaigns and to link subdomains to specific applications or locations.

Conditions for using sender domain

To add a sender domain, you need access to the Sender domain function in the Setup module.

Before you can add the sender domain, a local domain must first be present in the license that can be linked to the main domain. There may be costs associated with this.

For more information about adding a local domain, contact the account manager or email sales@spotler.nl.

DNS-records for the main domain

The first step in setting up a sender domain is to set up the appropriate DNS-records. Below are the DNS-records required for the main domain.

== DKIM record 1
type CNAME
name wps1._domainkey.[domein]
record wps1._domainkey.[licentienaam].webpower.eu.

== DKIM record 2
type CNAME
name wps2._domainkey.[domein]
record wps2._domainkey.[licentienaam].webpower.eu.

Remember to replace [domain] and [license name] with their corresponding names.

How do you add a sender domain?

You can add the sender domain yourself. You can do this in the Setup module. Go to Sender domain and click Insert.

A new screen will open. Here you can add the sender domain.

  • Domain: Enter the domain here, for example company.nl.
  • Email address: Enter the email address here to verify the domain. The domain of this email address must be the same as that of the sender domain. The recipient must also be able to log in to the Spotler MailPro license and have access to the Sender domain module to be able to verify the domain.
  • Web domain: It is possible to choose a web domain that is already available within the license to use for the links in emails that are sent with this sender domain, such as the web version, system pages, landing pages, etc. If you do not select a web domain, the primary web domain of the license will be used.

Once the fields are filled in, click Add domain and send verification mail. The verification mail will be sent to the email address you provided. The overview shows the domain you added. Behind the domain, it shows "pending validation".

Once you have confirmed via the verification email that the domain may be used, the domain will be available in the license.

When the domain is added to the license, Spotler must add the domain to the configuration as a final step. Send an email to support+mailpro@spotler.nl. We will set up the domain for you.
