WhatsApp requires Spotler Message

WhatsApp messages in Spotler MailPro require Spotler Message. WhatsApp templates come from Spotler Message and must be available before they can be used when creating a WhatsApp message in Spotler MailPro.

On this page, the following topics are covered:

What is Messages?

Messages is the content module in Spotler MailPro for creating SMS and WhatsApp messages. A message contains the content and settings that are later used when the message is sent.

A message is not sent from the Messages module itself. After a message is saved, it becomes available for supported sending options, such as bulk sendouts, Flow Builder journeys, and REST API-based sendouts.

Where can you find Messages?

You can find Messages in Spotler MailPro via Content > Messages.

Overview Messages in Content

The Messages module contains the option to create a new message. To start creating a message, click Insert.

What can you create in Messages?

You can create SMS and WhatsApp messages in the Messages module. The type of message is determined by the message sender selected in the first step.

Message type What it uses Where it is created
SMS message A message sender for SMS, a language, a personalized message, and an unpersonalized message. Content > Messages
WhatsApp message A message sender for WhatsApp, a WhatsApp template, template variables, and optional default values. Content > Messages

How does step 1 work?

Step 1 defines the internal message name and the message sender. The message sender determines whether the next step shows SMS settings or WhatsApp settings.

  1. Go to Content > Messages.
  2. Click Insert.
  3. Enter a Name for the message.
  4. Select a Message Sender.
  5. Click Next.

The Name is used to recognize the message inside Spotler MailPro. The Message Sender defines the sender and the message type used for the message.

How does a WhatsApp message work?

A WhatsApp message in Spotler MailPro is based on a WhatsApp template from Spotler Message. The template provides the message text and can contain variables that must be mapped to Spotler MailPro database fields.

In step 2 for a WhatsApp message, Spotler MailPro shows the selected message name, the WhatsApp template, a template preview, and the available variables.

Setting Description
Name The internal name of the message in Spotler MailPro.
WhatsApp Template The WhatsApp template selected for the message.
Example WhatsApp template A preview of the selected WhatsApp template, including the variables used in the template.
Variables The template variables that must be linked to database fields in Spotler MailPro.
Field The database field used to fill the selected WhatsApp template variable.
Default value The fallback value used when the selected database field is empty for a contact.

How are WhatsApp variables used?

WhatsApp variables are placeholders in a WhatsApp template, such as {{1}}, {{2}}, and {{3}}. Spotler MailPro replaces these placeholders with values from the selected database fields when the message is sent.

A default value prevents an empty variable from appearing in the WhatsApp message when the selected database field has no value for a contact.

How does an SMS message work?

An SMS message in Spotler MailPro contains a language selection, a personalized message, and an unpersonalized message. Spotler MailPro shows a preview while the SMS message is created.

Setting Description
Name The internal name of the message in Spotler MailPro.
Language The language selected for the SMS message.
Personalized message The SMS text that can include personalization based on contact or database values.
Unpersonalized message The SMS text that can be used without personalization.
Character and credit counter The counter that shows the number of characters and credits for the SMS message.

The personalized message is used when the SMS text should include contact-specific values. The unpersonalized message is used when the SMS text can be sent without personal data.

What is the result?

After the message is saved, the SMS or WhatsApp message is available in Spotler MailPro. Users can use the saved message in supported sendout methods, such as bulk sendouts, Flow Builder journeys, and REST API-based sendouts.

For WhatsApp messages, the saved message uses the selected WhatsApp template and the mapped variables. For SMS messages, the saved message uses the SMS text and language settings entered in the Messages module.
