In Spotler MailPro, you can create automated follow-up actions using triggers. Triggers respond to subscriber behavior in an email, such as opens or clicks, and can perform a range of actions. This is useful for setting up event-driven campaigns like reactivations or birthdays.
In this article you will learn more about:
- Step 1: Create a trigger
- Step 2: Define conditions
- Step 3: Define actions
- Step 4: Set duration and delay
- Trigger behavior and copying
- Combining triggers with Flow builder
- Examples and use cases
Step 1: Create a trigger
Go to the Send module and click on the Triggers tab. Click on Insert to create a new trigger and enter a name for it. Be sure to select the mailing the trigger applies to.
Step 2: Define conditions
In the trigger settings, you’ll see two sections: Define condition(s) and Define action(s). Start by defining the condition(s). These determine when the trigger will be activated. Common examples include:
-
An email open
-
A click on a specific link
Step 3: Define actions
After setting the condition, choose one or more actions to perform. Spotler MailPro offers four actions:
- Send mailing: Select a mailing to be sent to the contact who triggered the action.
- Add subscriber to group: Choose a group the contact will be added to after meeting the trigger condition.
- Callback URL: Create a callback to, for example, a website. Variables from the contact will be included in the request.
-
Update subscriber field: Update a subscriber field with a fixed value or by incrementing it. For example, increase an Interest level field by +1 with each trigger. If the current value is 2, it becomes 3 after activation.
Step 4: Set duration and delay
Define the trigger’s lifespan and any delay before it activates:
- Duration: Set how many times the trigger can occur and how long it remains active.
-
Delay: Optionally set a delay between the trigger condition being met and the action being performed.
Click OK to save. The trigger becomes active the next time the selected mailing is sent.
Trigger behavior and copying
Each trigger runs only once per contact per mailing. When you copy a mailing, the associated triggers are also copied. This makes it easy to reuse trigger logic in future campaigns.
Combining triggers with Flow builder
Triggers (also known as automated campaigns) can be used in combination with the Flow builder. For example, a trigger can add a contact to group X, and a flow can start with the condition “when contact is added in group X.” This way, two automation features of Spotler MailPro work together seamlessly.
Examples and use cases
Once the basics are in place, you can use triggers for many event-driven campaigns, such as:
- Reactivation campaigns
- Birthday mailings
- Follow-up sequences based on interest level
